The OC Insider synopsis

For the first time in a long time I really enjoyed an episode of the OC – and it’s all down to that bundle of sunshine Taylor Townsend.

It started with some bad science, as Summer and Che performing a desensitised form of animal rights activism. Che declared them freeing the bunnies from evil experiments – and led them pied piper style to liberty with a flute. His reasoning? ‘Scientific studies have shown that music soothes animal minds’ (ok, not a verbatim quote but very similar). How do you think those results were derived idiot?

Ahem. Anyway, the episode promptly strayed deeper into that la-la zone we call Orange County. Julie and daughter Caitlin fought over the same man, they threw in a sterotypical Texan, Peter Gallagher’s eyebrows put in an appearance…. and Ryan and Taylor were paired up. In some ways inevitable, always ridiculous, but incredibly sweet. And a pairing I approve of since, if this episode is anything to go by, Taylor’s addition to the main cast means more more more Autumn Reeser.

In all seriousness – or as serious as one can be when talking OC – the show finally lost it’s soap drama and got back to ridiculous fun. Back in the good old days Seth and Summer were the underdog couple to root for and now Ryan and Taylor have been brought on to balance. The OC is going down after four seasons and just 16 episodes this year, which in all honesty is a godsend for a show that jumped the shark as soon as it hit the water. It’s always stupid, it’s often rubbish, but episodes like this mean I’ll miss it.
