Sorry, four months of missed entries to catch-up on. I’ll try and keep up (and add screenshots) from now on!

Finished over the last few months:

  • Ichigo Mashimaro (1-12): Filling the Azumanga gap, short, sweet and funny. Loved it to bits.
  • Samurai Champloo (1-26): One of the best anime I’ve seen – ever! Who would have thought Watanabe (Cowboy Bebop) could do it again. Totally cool with a brilliant hip-hop soundtrack, superb animation and a really top script.
  • Noir (1-26): Yawn. A real struggle to finish. Bee Train, I am not impressed.
  • Air: The movie: Yawn2. Pointless.
  • Paradise Kiss (1-12): Lovely, gorgeous shoujo. Great soundtrack, lovely animation, sweet storyline. This together with….
  • Honey and Clover (1-26): … have really filled the Kare Kano shoujo gap for me. H+C was even sweeter. Am looking to Nana to fill the gap when it starts in a few weeks.
  • Nadia: Secret of Bluewater (1-39): Lost its way a bit toward the end, but a real classic and you can already see the brilliance of Hideaki Anno (Eva). Great adaptation of the 20,000 Leagues under the sea storyline and with a lot to say about contemporary science.
  • Full Metal Panic: The Second Raid (1-13): Way too short, but you can never get enough FMP.
  • XXXholic and Tsubasa movie double feature: Now this is how Tsubasa should be done. Thank goodness Production IG are taking on the XXXholic series and not Bee Train. Really top-notch stuff, especially XXXholic which has the coolest ED credit song.
  • Full Metal Alchemist: The Conquerer of Shamballa: Now this is how a movie spin-off should be done. Not quite the ‘ending’ I secretly wished for, but great stuff and a nice way to round off the franchise.
  • Cardcaptor Sakura Movie1: Finally got to see a subbed version of this (and not the English dubbed Cardcaptors version). A little better. Still a bit dull though.
  • Gundam SEED Destiny Final+: Extended version of the final ep, which makes things a little more coherent. Doesn’t redeem a bad series though. Nice OP featuring TM Revolutions Vestige.
  • Top wo Nerae!2 Ep 4: So Nono finally gets her Buster machine – and it’s not how you’d have thought. You really can’t predict this series. But I love it to bits. Come on Lunar – Ep5 sub please!
  • Eureka 7 (1-33+): Getting more and more bizarre. The plot still doesn’t really work, but it’s interesting enough to keep me watching. Great soundtrack. 17 eps to go.
  • And a special mention for Densha Otoko (1-11). Totally brilliant (but chessy) JDorama based on the ‘true’ story of an otaku, and one of several tie-in’s (movie, manga, novel). Loved every minute of it, even if it was predictable. Single-handedly made me want to see more Dorama.

Also rewatched a lot of stuff at animesoc screenings (Patlabor the movie, Ranma movie2, Laputa). Am following Blood+ there too (up to ep17), which is really disappointing so far.

Mai Otome finishing soon and am halfway through Rahxephon and ROD the TV. Really need to finish Shuffle! and Iriya no sora, UFO no natsu too.

Manga-wise, am almost caught up on Tsubasa, which is fab. XXXholic is even better! The last Ranma (Vol 33) was a little funnier, but it really needs to end. Kare Kano is still great (up to Vol 19) but I’m a little tired of Arima now. Looking forward to more Yukino and the gang in the final volumes.
