If there was any doubt that fraud still occurs in science, simply look at the case of Woo Suk Hwang. It’s a typically muddly case. Does the falsification of some of his data detract from what is still a remarkable achievement? And having admitted it afterwards, does this make the whole thing questionable on ethical reasons? Hwang has already made history and we can’t ignore that, though where does that leave our morals?
