1/144 HG Strike Freedom Gundam December 21, 2006

This model came out a bit hit and miss for me. I spent quite a bit of time on it, but botched the painting on the two rifles. Yes, I’m a terrible painter in any case, but this time I made the mistake of trying a can of primer from Games Workshop. It sounded like an easy spray-paint option in principle but, despite precautions, the paint went everywhere and didn’t cover up every area. Plus the layer of paint turned out uneven. And it didn’t even make the painting afterwards any better! I would’ve been better off painting it with plain white paint, or using Gundam Markers straight off.

Because of that, I was a little disappointed at the overall aesthetic – probably because I’ve been coveting the bling-tastic MG Strike Freedom Full Burst Model. But on second glance the 1/144 version looks pretty decent – and very good in the photos. For a 1/144 kit, it’s not bad and the stand I borrowed from the Strike Noir makes for a better display. Indeed, the many features of the Strike Freedom allow for numerous poseabilities (yes, I made that word up) and the clear ‘action’ DRAGOON effects look as good as they did on the box. The usual gallery of photos after the jump.

Next up: Finish repainting the 1/144 no-grade Deathscythe Hell, then onto the 1/144 HG Shiranui Akatsuki.
